Interactive web-based play.
UX/UI Design, Full-Stack Development, Illustrations.
Figma, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP.
Backplaces is a web-based interactive play exploring vulnerability, intimacy, and emotional connections online. It combines storytelling, interactivity, and custom illustrations, based on extensive research and story collection.
This project was an homage to the unique nature of emotional connections on the internet. The content of the website came from a series of performances I hosted, where people were asked to share their experience and stories. The project was also fruit of extensive research and data gathering.
Wireframes and interactive prototypes were created in Figma and refined through supervisor feedback. The platform was built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, ensuring a mobile-friendly, responsive design. The illustrations were drawn on Procreate.
Key features of the project are the combination of interactive storytelling that adapts to user input, a fully responsive design for accessibility across devices, and the hand-drawn illustrations that seamlessly integrated into the web interface.
Backplaces earned me a cum laude recognition for my MFA. It was a transformative journey that strengthened skills in UX&UI, full-stack development, and storytelling. Through this project and the feedback received on it I learnt to expand the limits of what web design can do creatively.
